The Three Daily Sessions and the 30-Minute Window
A day in the app is three sessions, not one long one. This page explains how they open and close, because the timing is the thing people most often mistake for something being broken.
Three, six, nine
| Session | Repetitions | Default time |
|---|---|---|
| Morning | 3 | 7:00 AM |
| Afternoon | 6 | 12:00 PM |
| Night | 9 | 9:00 PM |

Day one of twenty-one. Only the morning session is open; the other two are locked until their time comes round.
The counts rise through the day on purpose. Three is short enough that no morning is too busy for it. Nine is long enough that the evening session closes the day properly rather than feeling like a box ticked.
The three times are yours to move. See Setting Your Three Reminder Times.
The window
Each session opens around its scheduled time and stays open for a limited window, thirty minutes by default. It is not available all day.
This is the single most important thing to understand about the app, and it is a design decision rather than a limitation. The whole premise of the 3-6-9 rhythm is spacing: returning to the same sentence at three separate points while the day is still happening. If all three sessions could be completed back to back at eleven at night, the spacing disappears and you are left with an ordinary journalling app.
So a session you have not started yet will show as locked until its time comes round.
Late, missed, and what the difference is
The app distinguishes between two kinds of not-on-time:
- Late. You arrived after the scheduled time but the session still counted. It is recorded, your streak is intact, and the app notes that it ran late.
- Missed. The window closed before you got there. That session is gone for the day. It does not roll over into the next one, and you cannot make it up by doing extra repetitions later.
A missed session is not the end of a streak on its own. The day can still count depending on what else you completed.
Inside a session

A morning session. Your current intention sits at the top, each line is numbered, and CHECK confirms the set.
A session is not just typing. It runs as a short sequence: a breathing exercise to settle you, then the writing itself, one line at a time, with the count on screen. Your current intention stays visible above the fields so you are copying it rather than recalling it, and each line has its own character count. If voiceover tones are switched on, your affirmation is spoken while you write.
If the voice does not play, that is a known and fixable thing rather than a mystery. Go to No Sound? How to Fix Voiceover Tones.
You can see everything you have completed in the history screen, session by session and day by day.
If you keep missing the same one
The usual culprit is a default time that does not match your actual life. A 12:00 PM afternoon session is useless if you are always in a meeting at noon.
Move it. There is no virtue in keeping the default, and a time you can actually make is worth more than a time that sounds tidy. Twenty minutes either side is enough to change a session you always miss into one you always make.
